The municipality of Líně lies about 11 km south-west of Plzeň. The first written record of the village dates to 1115.

Near Líně is Plzeň-Líně Airfield. Established in 1952 as a military airfield, it has also been open to public air traffic since 1996. The village has an outdoor swimming pool. It also has a memorial to military aviators.
