Stod lies in the valley of the Radbuza River, about twenty kilometres south-west of Pilsen. The town was first mentioned in written records in 1235.

Stod is home to the Church of St Mary Magdalene and a preserved Jewish cemetery. The cultural house on Nádražní Street is managed by Stod Municipal Cultural Centre. The centre also runs the municipal library, the summer cinema site and the Hospital Chapel. The town also has a sports hall and a stadium with an athletics track and a football pitch.
